What happened

It didn’t take long for the 2026 NFL Draft to go off script.

Why it matters

The Titans delivered Thursday night’s first jaw-dropper by using the fourth overall pick on Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate.

Common ground

Tate, who caught 51 passes for 875 yards and nine touchdowns for the Buckeyes last season, was seen as a potential top-10 pick, but few saw him coming off the board at No.

Perspective signals

No major persuasion pattern has been attached yet, so the source, headline, and evidence should carry most of the weight for readers.

Claim 1: “Tate was the first of what is expected to be at least a half-dozen wide receivers selected in the first two rounds of the draft.”
SINGLE SOURCE
One web search result mentions Tate being the most reliable option to be selected first among several players, and another web search lists Tate among several players expected to be selected early. However, none of the evidence sources quantify this as 'at least six wide receivers expected to be selected in the first two rounds,' making the specific number unverifiable by the evidence provided.

Two separate web search results mention that Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese were highly regarded prospects considered for top picks, and one web search mentions the Titans scooping up Styles, implying they passed on others to upgrade WR, supporting the general premise that they passed on these highly-rated players.

Claim 5: “The Titans had been rumored to have interest in Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, who was taken a pick earlier at No. 3 overall by the Cardinals.”
SINGLE SOURCE
The web search results discuss the speculation regarding Jeremiyah Love being linked to the Titans and the Cardinals, suggesting the interest existed. However, no single source definitively confirms that the Titans were rumored to be interested in Love *and* that he was taken by the Cardinals at No. 3. The evidence shows speculation about Love's potential picks, but not the specific sequence of events claimed.
