Set 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei transports players to the breathtaking and unexplored lands of Ezo in the 1600s. You step into the role of Atsu, a haunted mercenary seeking retribution against a gang of six outlaws known as the Yōtei Six, who slaughtered her family sixteen years prior. As Atsu travels through the rugged northern landscapes of Japan, she discovers that her journey is about more than just vengeance, forging unlikely allies and deep bonds along the way. Gameplay evolves the series' combat with a new 'weapon counter system' replacing the previous stance system. Atsu begins her journey with a single katana but gradually unlocks a diverse arsenal, including the yari (spear), kusarigama (chain-sickle), and the ōdachi (two-handed greatsword), eventually mastering the ability to dual-wield katanas. Ranged combat is expanded with the return of hankyu and yumi bows, alongside the introduction of the tanegashima matchlock rifle and tanzutsu pistol. For the first time, a grappling hook is available from the start of the game. Exploration is central to the experience, featuring a non-linear story where players choose the order in which they confront the Yōtei Six. The world is brought to life with dynamic weather effects inspired by the real climate of Mount Yōtei, including snow, rain, and the aurora borealis. Players can engage in diverse side activities such as sumi-e painting, gambling with zeni hajiki, and learning songs on the shamisen, while the iconic 'guiding wind' returns to lead the way. Designed specifically for the PlayStation 5, the game offers a cinematic experience with the return of Kurosawa Mode, as well as new visual modes inspired by Takashi Miike and Shinichirō Watanabe. For those seeking additional challenges, the game includes a multiplayer mode titled Ghost of Yōtei: Legends, featuring two-player story missions and four-player survival matches against monstrous versions of the Yōtei Six and creatures from Japanese mythology.
